Why do so many people need the Food Shelf?

Their are many factors to why people need the food shelf. One thing we and many other food shelves hear are the rising costs of fuel for heating and transportation. With the increase in fuel prices, the cost of food also goes up because of the cost to ship.

Unemployment, low paying jobs, illness or injury makes it harder to afford fuel, food, mortgage or rent, and payment of regular bills (utilities, insurance, etc.).

Clients may have a limited income or fixed income.

The high cost of medicine and health care. This is a burning issue for those who work where no insurance is available and for the elderly. This is also an issue for those who can get it through their work, but again the cost is too high. Top of page
